You may have heard of health coaching or nutrition coaching and wondered ‘why the heck would I need that?’ Well, keep on reading and I’ll tell you why...
Maybe you know that you are heading in the direction of chronic illness because your diet and lifestyle hasn’t been so great and your doctor has warned you of the consequences, but you have no idea where to start to turn it around.
Maybe you have tried fad diets or learning about nutrition yourself, but all of the information is overwhelming and you haven’t found a way to keep yourself on track when working towards your goals.
These are just some of the many reasons why people choose to work with a nutrition coach. They have either realized they lost their way, or perhaps never even knew their way, so they need the expertise of a trained professional to guide them back.
And...that is where a nutrition coach comes in!
The basic job description of a coach is to get you from where you are now to where you desire to be. A coach becomes your thinking partner and helps you reveal the blocks which have become ingrained in you that you need to break through in order to overcome whatever health issue you are struggling with in order to transform your life.
Coaching provides a catalyst to change and a reboot to level up your life.
Coaching sessions open up fresh perspectives by providing you with different points of view and new possibilities. You are encouraged to expand your thinking and to be able to see things on your own.
Sessions offer a safe place where you can be yourself and discover new ways to achieve your desired outcomes with the guidance of your coach.
When you are provided with an outside perspective on your limiting beliefs, you will learn how much those beliefs have been subconsciously allowed to dictate your life. Learning how to shift from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset is an important process which allows access to lasting change and transformation.
By encouraging behavior change, lasting transformation is achieved.
In order for this to happen, a coach holds you accountable while working towards your goals in addition to providing motivation and encouragement along the way. You are provided not just with the education, strategies, tips and tools that you need for success but with support and inspiration. That aspect of coaching is so valuable and is key in providing the desired outcome!
Examples of services provided by a nutrition coach:
In-depth health assessment and evaluation to identify nutrition imbalances, root cause of symptoms and lifestyle habits to support unique requirements of each client.
Evaluation of the client’s food selection, prep and intake.
Evaluation of the client’s lifestyle and overall feeling of well-being.
Supports the progress of the client’s health goals with education, guidance, accountability and motivation.
Guides the client in implementation of a long-term health plan.
Before Hiring a Coach
The relationship between the coach and the client is the guiding force for change. Keep this in mind when you are choosing a coach to work with. Most coaches will do a free call with you before working with them to determine if you are a good fit for their services. Make sure to do your research and check their credentials. Also, make sure that you can trust the coach you will be working with. Follow your gut intuition and choose somebody you feel comfortable and vibe with.
A good health coach...
Counsels and guides the client toward optimal health while allowing the client to make the final decision.
Teaches the client to take responsibility in her own health choices and actions.
Is not judgmental to the life experiences, beliefs or values of their client.
Respects the confidential relationship they have with their client.
Does not provide treatments or supplements.
Only provides services in the areas where they have received appropriate training and can exhibit full competence.
I am a coach because I love being able to use the knowledge that I have gained to help people change their behavior to be able to live better lives. I believe that ultimately healthy and happy people benefit society as a whole. I love being able to introduce my clients to new ways of thinking to shift their perspectives and achieve their goals and dreams. This approach involves a holistic process addressing not only nutrition, but all of the other aspects necessary to have abundant energy and a healthy life.
