Make Healthy Habits Stick
Updated: Jan 2
One of the hardest life long tasks is breaking bad habits and then learning new good habits and making them stick. Establishing new healthy habits takes commitment, self-control and self-discipline. When new habits become second nature, you look back at your 'old' self and wonder how you ever lived that way-whether it was a poor diet, not getting enough sleep, overeating, not exercising....
You realize how much better you feel with your new lifestyle and your healthy habits become a part of your routine. If an old habit does try to resurface, which it will when you are working on healthy habit change, you will most likely feel even worse than before you changed to a new, healthy lifestyle. You will feel just how toxic your old habit was when you come from a place of good health.
If you are working towards new healthy goals to improve your life and slip into an old bad habit, don't be too hard on yourself. Do not let it put you into a mindset that you failed and can't do it anyway so you just stop trying.
How to make new habits that stick:
Establish a strong reason WHY you want to make a change
Come up with a realistic plan and build your new habit into your daily routine
Establish a resilient mindset with a mantra you can regularly remind yourself...'I am strong'
Practice self-discipline and holding yourself accountable when you get off track
Find support to help keep you accountable
Remember your WHY at all times
Track your changes and results--note where you are when you begin and reevaluate after 30-90 days.
Deep rooted habits can take time and multiple failures before you will be able to change.
Remind yourself that self-discipline and self-control along with self-LOVE brings about the long term results that you are looking for. Hold yourself accountable and find support if you need a buddy. Make sure you are always keeping the big picture in mind and have goals to strive towards. And always make sure that you are enjoying the ride of life along the way.
